Daily Show on Comedy Central. He also created and plays the lead role in the
sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student, that premiered on ABC Australia
(Australia) in 2017. Chieng was born into a Malaysian Chinese family. He was
born in Johor Bahru. Chieng was educated in Singapore as well as the United
States. He lived in Manchester, New Hampshire, between 1989 and 1994. Chieng
performed with Trevor Noah in 2013 at the comedy festival in Melbourne,
Australia. Chieng was then invited to audition for the role of Noah's Daily
Show two years later. In July of 2016 Chieng was selected as one of the 10
Comics to be watching by Variety In October 2016, Chieng appeared on The Daily
Show to provide his opinion on a Jesse Watters Fox News segment thought to be
racist by a large majority of viewers. Chieng made expletive-laden comments
regarding the segment on Fox News, a conservative network. Chieng also visited
the city's Chinatown. Watters had mocked the Chinese residents and conducted
respectful interviews in Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese. The viral video
garnered attention in Slate and Washington Post. In his early years, Chieng was
an Singapore Sea Scout. While he's been in Australia for a decade, he does not
have citizenship or permanent residence status in Australia. In the year 2018
Chieng claimed he was cynophobic on the Daily Show, but later clarified in an
interview that he was "100 per cent not scared of dogs".
